Baby Kitten Gets Hit By Car, Makes a Gradual Recovery Thanks To a Neat Body Cast

Go kitty go! We’re all rooting for this beautiful orange cat’s recovery — after a kind soul found a motionless tiny ball of fur on the side of the road, he took the injured baby feline to the Caring Fields Felines, a rescue organization in Palm City, Florida.

Pauline Glover, executive director of the organization, managed to get Davey to Savanna Animal Hospital just in the nick of time. Glover said, “Dr. Ries and her staff donate time and resources to help the cats the sanctuary rescues. We would not be able to do everything we do without the dedication and hard work from them.”

It was a crisis situation. An x-ray revealed that Davey had a broken cervical vetebrae — his tiny spine was bent out of shape after a car had slammed into him!

“He needed to be placed into a body cast immediately,” Glover said. “Obviously, for us, putting him down was just not an option.”

After a month and a half of recovery, Davey is healing up nicely. He spends his days in the vet’s office under careful medical scrutiny, and his nights at a vet technician’s house so that he’s never alone in case of emergency.

Davey also has a new friend — 3 year old foster dog Oakley. “Oakley adores his foster brother Davey,” Caring Fields Felines posted on Facebook. “He rushes to Davey’s side every time he cries.”

In a month, hopefully Davey will be cast-free. He’s able to sit up on his own, and can purr happily. Soon hopefully a loving family will adopt him into their home!

Davey is just one of over one hundred permanent residents at Caring Fields Felines. Their caring volunteers and passion for animal welfare is an inspiration to all.
