The woman posted its picture on Facebook with a message asking for help. What followed would ultimately put an end to the sad stray’s suffering.
This was the dog when she was first spotted outside of Athens, Greece.
After her
picture was posted on Facebook, she was given the name Petra, which is
Greek for “stone,” and rescuers quickly mobilized to bring her to
safety.
But it wasn’t easy. Petra was horribly afraid of humans and would run each time they attempted to get close to her.
Finally, she was caught and brought to the Save A Greek Stray shelter in Oropos.
It was there that a woman named Valia Orfanidou met Petra, and knew she had to help her.
Petra received treatment for everything from severe mange, which caused her stone-like condition, to skin infections and leishamiasis.
But Petra was still deeply mistrusting of humans. It took weeks and weeks for Valia to be able to truly show her love.
But the hard
work finally paid off. Petra was a happy girl and ready to trust her
foster mom. It was like she became a completely different dog.
Now all smiles and love, Petra is no longer the mange-covered, stone dog Valia used to know.
