All animals have an natural and instinctive fear of fire, and try to
avoid it as much as they can. One cat proved, however, that there is one
thing stronger than that fear: A mother’s instinct to protect her
young.
A cat named Scarlett and her five small kittens were taking shelter
in an abandoned building in Brooklyn, New York when a fire started from
unknown causes. When all hope seemed lost, what Scarlett did next is
unbelievable.
Scarlett walked through the blazing fire 5 times, rescuing each of her kittens one by one.
When firefighters found her, she was barely hanging on to life.
After carrying
her babies to safety, she was seen touching each of them with her nose
to ensure they were all there and alive. The blisters on her eyes kept
her from being able to see them. Immediately after that, Scarlett
collapsed unconscious.
Scarlett and her kittens were taken by one of the firefighters to a
nearby veterinary clinic, where they were treated for three months until
they were well enough to be adopted. A staff member at the clinic said
that Scarlett was “spoiled rotten and treated like a queen”. As she well
deserved.
This is an amazing heartfelt rescue that only a mother can truly understand...
